Lunch Spots You Need To Try

Ahh, it’s finally here. Crisp autumn weather, leaves changing colours and layering up in comfy clothing; it’s the coziest time of year! However, the new season comes with a lot of other changes, including our appetite. We tend to gravitate more towards comforting food when the low temperatures kick in. Lucky for us Montrealers, there are plenty of lunch spots where you can find food that will warm your soul (and stomach). Here are a few that are a must try:

Olive et Gourmando

Olive et Gourmando

If you’ve never been here… then please drop what you’re doing and GO (after you read this article, of course)! As my friend once said, “eating at Olive during fall is like a warm hug,” and I couldn't agree with this statement more. Located in the Old Port, this cozy bistro has been around since 1999 and has become extremely successful throughout the years. Popular amongst locals, tourists, and celebrities, Olive et Gourmando has a casual ambiance and serves artisanal food that is made with love and quality ingredients. There are many comforting foods to choose from like their hot paninis (made with their homemade bread), or their delicious baked mac and cheese that is offered during the colder months. They have items that are on their menu permanently, and others that change seasonally. In addition, they have a variety of homemade pastries at the counter, from hearty brioches to scrumptious croissants. Due to its increasing popularity, be warned that you will have to wait in line!

Parma Café

Parma Café

Opened in 2016 in the heart of downtown, this snack bar is the place to come if you want authentic Italian comfort food. Italian cuisine always feels like a blanket for the soul, from pasta, baked pizzas, chicken cutlet sandwiches, meatballs, and more, which can all be found here at Parma café. Everything on their menu is fresh and made in house, so it’s definitely Nonna approved! Check out their October panini of the month, which consists of grilled chicken, caramelized apples, fried brie cheese, and arugula. With a casual atmosphere and delicious food that embodies true Italian culture, what more could you want!

Sumac Resto Montreal

Sumac is a Middle Eastern restaurant that serves delicious, inexpensive Lebanese dishes in a hip, rustic atmosphere. You order at the counter, where you can choose from 4 main dishes – the shawarma, kafta, falafel, and sabich (a fried eggplant and hardboiled egg dish). You have the option of ordering a pita sandwich, a plate (which is served with pita, hummus, pickled turnip and 2 salads of your choice), or a family style sharing platter. Service is quick and the food is very appetizing! Be sure to order one of their many side dishes to share. Tip: The sumac fries are delicious!

Ma Poule Mouillé

Ma Poule Mouillé

Nothing screams comfort like French fries drenched in gravy and cheese curds. Poutine – the ultimate comfort food! This spot is a laid-back Portuguese grill known for its chicken and other meat sandwiches and plates; however, their poutine is a very popular item on their menu. It consists of fries, gravy, São Jorge cheese, chicken and chorizo, and it is known as one of the best in Montreal. You have to try it yourself to believe it! Don't forget to try their pastel de nata – a delicious Portuguese custard tart! Make sure to go on an empty stomach, as the portions are very generous!

Hours: Monday – Sunday from 9 AM – 10 PM

Address: 969 Rachel St E, Montreal, QC H2J 2J2

Lola Rosa

Lola Rosa Montreal

Lola Rosa is a great choice for those who prefer a meatless option. This is an inviting restaurant with a lot of comforting vegetarian dishes to choose from, like their spinach lasagna or tomato pie. What makes this place extra special is that each table has a drawer filled with quotes and stories from previous customers, which is fun to read while you wait for your food! There are four different locations and each menu is slightly different so you can check it out online before deciding which one to try. Both your stomach and heart will be filled with warmth!
