10 Things To Do for Valentine's Day When You're Single
It’s the month of February. You’re walking around and everywhere you look, you’re being bombarded with all things pink, red, hearts, flowers, and chocolates galore. If there’s one thing I can say, it’s that you should not feel bad for being single on Valentine’s Day. This day is really just an emphasized holiday to show your loved ones you care (and like I’ve mentioned before, you should show love on all days of the year). This is, however, a great opportunity to go out with your friends and show love to yourselves! Do not sulk and be stuck indoors, go out and have some fun! Here are some fun activities to do this Valentine’s Day if you’re single:
1. Skate and Mingle for Singles
If you really want to take this opportunity to meet someone, then make your way to the Old Port for this fun event dedicated to singles! You’ll be skating under the stars in Old Montreal with the potential of meeting someone special… I mean, come on, it doesn’t get any more romantic than that! But don’t worry, you’re not expected to just walk on over and introduce yourself to a stranger (although you definitely can, there is nothing wrong with that)! But especially if you’re more on the shy side, there will be an icebreaker and activities throughout the night in order for you all to engage in friendly conversations. Once you find someone you’re interested in, you can hop off the rink and go to a bar or restaurant in the area (there are tons around) so you can get to know each other more in an intimate environment. Or, you can just stay and have fun on the rink; there will also be a DJ on site!
When: February 14th, 7:30 PM
Where: Natrel Basin in the Old Port
Cost: $6.95 (Regular rate – does not include skate rentals)
2. Speed Dating for Singles
If you want to go out and meet someone but prefer not to be outside in the cold, fear not – you have the option of mingling with someone indoors! Dashing Date is hosting a speed-dating event in Montreal for singles of ages 25-32, 40-somethings, ages 32-42, and ages 45+. Each event is tailored specifically for that age group. For example, if you attend the event for ages 25-32, then you will be meeting young professionals excited to explore the dating scene! And let’s face it, this age group has gotten used to swiping left and right online (the millennial way of dating), so it’s a great way to interact and engage with someone in person. There are 14-24 guests in total and you will meet 7-12 people of the opposite sex. The event will be held in a trendy venue, so make sure to dress to impress! Dashing date also screens their clients so you will be required to fill out a short questionnaire telling them a little bit about yourself and send some recent photos. It’s a sure way to meet someone that is compatible with you!
When: February 13 & 14 at 7:30 PM (Depending on which event you attend).
Where: Venues TBA
Cost: Between $39 and $60
Note: There is also a speed-dating event happening at Karina’s (3rd floor of Sir Winston Churchill on Crescent) for $29.97, which is a great option if you’re looking for more of a party atmosphere. Feel your heart and share the vibration of love you have for yourself and others at this lovely event happening at Yoga on the Park! This is a live concert where international recording artist, pianist, and composer Mark Pinkus will be performing pieces from his albums to celebrate the theme of love. Mark’s music is described as “beautiful little stories without words,” and it’s a great event to attend just before Valentine’s Day. There will be chairs and cushions, so you’ll be all comfy while you listen to live, heart-warming music!
When: February 9, 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM
Where: Yoga on the Park, 5582 Rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montréal, QC, H4A 1W3

5. Go out for Dinner with Your Girls or Go to a Pub for Ladies Night
If you want to show off your glammed up look from the salon, then be sure to make a night out of it with your girls! Head on over to Deville Dinerbar for a delicious supper in a fun and glamorous diner – Perfect for a girls night out! They always have special promotions on their drinks, and since Valentine’s Day falls on a Thursday this year, you’ll be getting reduced priced on their rosé! Another great option is to head to a pub, especially because there are always specials happening for ladies night. Pub Saint Pierre has Ladies Night & Vinyl Night on Wednesdays from 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM for the month of February. The DJ will be spinning classic hip-hop jams so you can dance the night away, AND you get drinks for happy hour prices all night long! Eat, drink, and party the night away!
6. Keep it Simple With a Movie Night
If you want to keep it low key and simple, why not head over to the movie theatres with your girls? There’s nothing like a good romantic movie to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day, even if you are single! Check out Second Act starring Jennifer Lopez, a romantic comedy about a big box store employee who wants to prove that street smarts are just as valuable as a college degree. After she loses the promotion she was hoping for to a college-educated candidate, she is vowed to prove that she can get a job without an educational background. It’s the ultimate chick flick to watch with your girls! Sneak in some chocolate covered strawberries in theatre, grab some popcorn, and enjoy this fun comedy! Also, be sure to follow us on our Instagram for movie ticket giveaways!
7. Visit a Winter Winery
When there is wine involved, you know you're in for a good time! A wine tour is a fun and unique experience to plan for Valentines Day. With Kava Tours, you can go on a winter wine tour to 3 wineries in the Eastern township, where you will learn everything you need to know about ice wine and cider. The trip includes transportation, an exclusive tour with a guide, interactive workshops such as a mixology class with ice wine, a warm and comforting traditional Québec meal before a blind tasting session, and a lesson about the art of sabering the sparkling wine before visiting the oldest winery in Québec.
When: Every Saturday from February – April
Where: Departure from Montreal at 8:30 AM & 8:45 AM, return at 5:15 PM & 5:30 PM
8. Enjoy a Glamorous Brunch
Treat yourself to brunch – you deserve it! You can check out the top brunch spots I’ve written about, or if you’re feeling extra fancy, you can have Breakfast at Maison Boulud at The Ritz Carlton. Expensive and posh? Yes. But hey, you’re eating for one not for two, so go ahead, spoil yourself and indulge. The Ritz Carlton is gorgeous and glamorous on its own, but being able to sit and dine at Maison Boulud will make you feel like royalty. They have savoury and sweet dishes, from a mushroom omelet with leeks and mild cheddar to French toast with season fruits compote and salted butter caramel. They also have a brunch menu, which includes a 2 or 3 course fixed menu for either $44 or $54.
9. Get Fit!
Did you stuff your face with chocolate truffles? Its okay if you did, you deserve to satisfy your sweet tooth! But if you’re looking for a way to burn it off, a great way to do so is to attend a spin class! Don’t be locked up in your house during Valentine’s Day, go out and get fit with a friend! Spin classes are known to be like a club on a bike because of the amazing music and engaging instructors, so you get to burn off some major calories in a party atmosphere! Spin Énergie, which is located on Parc, is a great option for an upbeat and fun spin class, because to them working out means having a good time! Plus, if you’ve never been here, the first class is only $10!

10. Make Fancy French Pastries
There is nothing more romantic than Paris and French pastries. But seeing as we are in Montreal and cannot get treats from a local Parisian bakery, we have to work with what we have here. Lucky for us, we can learn to bake like a real pastry chef from a renowned team of chefs. At Maison Christian Faure, you can attend the Serious Amateurs Workshop, where you will learn to make professional pastries in a fun and relaxed environment. In honour of Valentine’s Day, you can attend The Secret of Macarons workshop, where you will learn how to make macarons and prepare various fillings. Although the classes may be pricy, you will really learn the art and precision of how to make these delectable French treats.
When: February 16, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Where: Maison Christian Faure 355 Place Royale Montreal
